VLSI Design 2018 will host a PhD forum co-located with the main conference. The purpose of this forum is to enable interaction of students pursuing PhD in VLSI design and other allied areas with academicians and industry practitioners to get valuable feedback in an informal setting. This year at VLSID conference, three different initiatives will be taken up towards the PhD forum.

PhD Poster Presentation
Students who are formally registered ( full OR part time) for a PhD with a recognized university/institute and have finished one year are eligible to participate. Those who have submitted their thesis but have not received their degree yet may also participate.
Interested PhD students need to submit a two-to-four page extended abstract of their research work in standard IEEE format. The abstract, in addition to highlighting the key contributions of the work should include result etc.
Abstracts will be selected based on the quality of work, its relevance to the conference and the publication record of the student in major journals/international conferences.
As the Ph.D forum is co-located with the main conference, there is no additional registration needed .
Accepted student authors will be asked to present their work both in oral (not exceeding ten minutes) and poster (2 hours) formats. There will be a ‘Best Poster’ award that will be decided by the Ph.D forum committee.

Best Thesis Award
Students who submitted their PhD thesis after Jan, 1st 2016 in the VLSI & Embedded system domain & work is aligned with conference theme are eligible.
Interested PhD students should submit a four-to-six page extended abstract of their thesis work in standard IEEE format. The abstract, should clearly highlight (not limited to) the following:
1. New theory/postulates/designs developed
2. Modifications made to existing postulates
3. Proving any existing postulates incorrect
4. Major technology advances
5. List of patents/papers coming out of the work
In addition to the above students should also include details such as name, affiliation and advisor name.
Along with 4 page abstract, the author/s can submit accolades received by thesis by the host university/institute. This would greatly help in evaluating the thesis.
Thesis will be selected based on the quality of work, its relevance to the conference and the publication record of the student in major journals/international conferences.
As the Ph.D forum is co-located with the main conference, there is no additional registration needed.
Accepted student authors will be asked to present their work in oral for 20 min, followed by Q & A for 5 min.

Industry Institute Interface (3I) – Panel Discussion
Theme: VLSI Research in India – Challenges and Opportunities
All the attendees (both from academia and industry) will be asked to take part in this questionnaire for about 30 min to get the opinion from broader audience. It should be noted that, this forum is relevant to the entire audience (students, faculty and industry) and not restricted just to the PhD community.
A panel discussion will be arranged taking up these questions (along with the ones already prepared)
